Active Dates
Amada Sadayoshi (father of Amada Akitsugu, National Living Treasure) began making blades with his own Mei in 1931 and died in April 1938. Therefore his active dates should, perhaps be amended. It appears that prior to 1931 he was smithing blades, but for local dealers under other mei. See: http://www.456fis.org/YAMAMOTO_&THE%20SWARD_SMITH.htm There are other certainly other references to his death in 1938, though the question of what he was doing before 1931, is not, as far as I can see, referred to in English print or on the internet. I'd love to hear what anybody else has read in Japanese on the subject.
